Originally, a blog for our year living and working in the Japanese island of Kyushu. Now that we are back home, its just the average blog. We'll update friends and family on whatever is going through our heads.

La, La, La

So, not much has changed except that we are finally getting settled in our new house. We've officially lived in the house for 1 1/2 weeks and it's finally looking habitable. My favorite part of the house is the dinette...which unfortunately I can't share with you all because we still haven't bought a new camera. That's another subject...but while I'm on it- does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking of a Nikon D50, 60 or D70 but they are bulky and I'm still not sure I'd want to haul it around. I'm looking for a medium size camera that's light-weight but takes amazing pictures, is that too much to ask?
Back to my dinette, it's absolutely perfect. I'm in love with the wall color- Lowe's "crocodile tears" and everything just seems to flow. Nick hung up our chandelier and it is glorious! After almost 2 years of being in a box, it's still all in one piece.

On another subject, I can't wait until the holiday time. Frankly, it has nothing to do with the actual holidays (Christmas, New Year's, etc) but everything to do with a break from teaching in the evenings. This semester I am teaching 2 classes and they are not on the same material so it's a very hectic time for me. I'm trying to keep them straight and be a responsible teacher but this week I was so lost. I never reviewed my notes prior to class and was just following my PowerPoint presentation hoping the students would come up with their own discussion. That's the beauty of college...there's no need for a formal lecture, just give a topic and let the students discuss and lecture themselves.

Marathon Update: I'm still training for the Disney Marathon scheduled for Sunday, January 13, 2008. A couple of weeks ago I ran 18 miles and I felt really good. Then I slacked off last week and didn't run AT ALL which caused me to be sore after a 3 mile run yesterday. It's ridiculous how I've been training for 4 months, I take off 1 week and I'm SORE after 3 miles. Whatever happened to "muscle memory"? Anyhow, I decided that because I've been training for an eternity...ok not really but it feels like it, I'll get 2 marathons out of this training season. I'm planning on doing Jacksonville Breast Cancer Marathon in February (30 days after Disney). Then I plan to "retire" from marathons. 3 is a good number and that means that I would accomplish my goal of finishing 3 marathons before I'm 30 with plenty of time to spare!

Congrats on the house Steph. I've been in mine 4 weeks now and it's still not feeling that lived in. As for cameras, I bought this one and love it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8469258&type=product&id=1184768166370 Good luck with training. I'm doing OUC 1/2 and BOA 1/2 in Feb.
