Discovery Night Launch

Discovery Shuttle on launch pad

Tonight we got to experience something that only Central Floridians get to see, a space shuttle launch. I used to take this for granted until I realized that it is something unique to Florida and only a few people get to see in person.

Not only was it a launch but it was the first night launch in 4 years. NASA had not done a night launch since the tragic Columbia shuttle accident.

I tried to take pictures but keep in mind that we do live about 50 miles west of Cape Canaveral so by the time we see it it's a spec in the sky. Although it is amazing how the sky lights up at the horizon as it is lifting off.

Hey, Thanks for the picture. We were there and it was spectular!! First we went to the parade and then across the street, on the river, for the launch. It is truly unbelievably brillant, and breath taking! We forgot the camera though. Thanks for the picture.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of Baby under the tree. It looks like Baby has a special personality.

Also, thanks for the pictures of the night launch. We were fortunate to see the 4th of July launch. It was a day launch but was quite bright. I can only imagine how bright a night launch would be. Thanks.
